Our client builds a browser-based document editor: upload a file and convert, merge, split, sign, watermark, redact or password-protect it, with AI features layered on top. The product has a large public user base and ships daily. What sets the product apart is the quality of interaction rather than the length of the feature list. The application is driven by hotkeys, fully navigable from the keyboard, and design accuracy and accessibility are treated as core business concerns.
What the role involves:
- Owning features end to end, from shaping the idea with design and product through to the effect on a metric.
- Building the editor surface, from small shared UI components to complex stateful views, in reusable and performant React modules.
- Going into the backend where a feature needs it: Cloud Functions, Firestore data models, security rules, API contracts.
- Turning design into interfaces that feel right, with accurate implementation, accessibility and hotkey behaviour.
- Profiling and optimising rendering, bundle size and real-time interactions, since inside a document editor every millisecond is visible.
- Keeping authorisation, tenant isolation and input validation in mind on your own work.
- Reviewing pull requests closely, alongside the AI reviewers that run on every PR.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of relevant hands-on experience in backend, frontend or full-stack work.
- Experience with complex user interfaces on a public product with a sizeable audience: drag and drop, collaborative mechanics, editors, computation on the client.
- Confident React and TypeScript, including the ability to reason about renders, state ownership and where a performance problem actually sits.
- Production experience with a Node.js backend. Features here usually need their own backend work, and the engineer building the interface is the one who writes it.
- Product and design sensibility, and an understanding that the quality of UI interactions moves conversion at least as much as elegantly written code does.
- A working method for collaborating with AI agents that you can explain. The team writes almost no code by hand and relies on agent instructions, code style specs and its own tooling, so judgement about what to keep matters more than prompting skill.
- Comfort working independently and asynchronously.
Experience with GCP, Firebase, Terraform and Docker is a plus.

- Compensation of $72,000-90,000 per year gross, paid through Deel.
